Our Island Universe: the Milky Way Galaxy and its place in space and time

This month Professor Ian Morison will be encouraging us to look at the night sky. Until the 1920’s it was thought that our galaxy might be the Universe, but now astronomers have shown that it is just one of myriads of galaxies that stretch across a vast Universe.
