It might be cold outside but this January you will receive a warm reception from the members of the Society.  This month  Elizabeth Williams, a former Trustee of the Elizabeth Gaskell House in Manchester will be looking at how fallen women were viewed in the Victorian period.

Primitive Methodism in Cheshire and Staffordshire

Elizabeth Morris, a performance storyteller, will be returning to Weaverham to give us the story of Primitive Methodism in this area, told through the words of Sarah Smith, a primitive Methodist at Englesea Brook.  An evening's entertainment that is not to be missed.

The Trial of Dr Tomanzie

Angela Brabin is returning to look at the trial for murder of Dr Tomanzie, a doctor in Liverpool accused of murder after he performed an abortion on a girl who later died.   Angela will be looking at the judgemental attitudes Victorians had to unmarried mothers and to illegitimate children.

Tales of the Marches

Dr Graham Dodd, who is a Trustee of the Nantwich Museum and Vice Chair of the Nantwich Historical Society, will be entertaining us with a series of stories based upon the history and legends of the Welsh Marches.
