The next meeting of the Society will be on Tuesday, 11 November at 7.30 pm at the Weaverham Primary Academy, Northwich Road, CW8 3BD. On Tuesday evening we have David Hearn – a local historian and writer who served in the Cheshire Yeomanry, who will be telling us about how the Cheshire Yeomanry has fared over the past 225 years. I am sure that his talk will be both interesting and informative.
Additionally, at the meeting on Tuesday we will have available for you to see the display boards prepared by Peter Clarke for the History Day which occurred in October.
A couple of other points to note – if you haven’t already done so, it is time for you to renew your membership of the Society. It is £15 for the year and you can pay by bank transfer using sort code 09-01-29 and account number 26685458. Alternatively, you can pay when attending one of our meetings.
Also on Tuesday evening we are opening the bookings for our Christmas event which will be held on Tuesday, 9 December at 7 o’clock for a prompt 7.30 pm start, at the Owley Wood Recreation Club, Barrymore Road, Weaverham, CW8 3LS. This year we will be having a buffet and dessert provided by the Club so we will need to know ahead of time if you have any special dietary requirements. As usual we will be having an excellent entertainer, this year being Tom Hudson, a local historian and animator who will be telling us all about the history of Christmas and its traditions. The cost for this evening will be £15 and again you can pay us via bank transfer as detailed above or on this coming Tuesday evening. The event is open to family and friends so you don’t have to be a member of the Society, and the Committee look forward to seeing you all for a joyous evening of fun and entertainment. If you are unable to attend our next meeting you can email myself or the History Society and we can add your name(s) to the list. Numbers are restricted to 40 so please don’t delay.
Finally, if any of you happen to be attending this Sunday’s Remembrance parade and service at St Mary’s Church, Weaverham, I will be placing a wreath on behalf of the Weaverham History Society.
Meanwhile, I very much look forward to seeing you all again this coming Tuesday evening.
