In a change of plan, our speaker in April will be Geoffrey Scargill, the President of the Watkin Society. Sir Edward Watkin MP, nicknamed the Railway King, was instrumental in the creation of railway networks worldwide but particularly in the UK, India and Canada. He was the visionary behind the Great Central Railway, a digger of the first channel tunnel and someone who thought he could build a bigger tower than Eiffel’s! This new talk is about the man rather than the railways and even gives us a surprise glimpse of a well turned ankle!
