SUMMARY:The Warrington Transporter Bridges
DESCRIPTION:This month our speaker is Margaret Ingham\, Chair of the Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge.  The Friends act as the independent voice of the bridge\, which is the only rail transporter bridge in the world.  Also known as Bank Quay Transporter Bridge or Crossfield’s Transporter Bridge crossing the River Mersey\, it is constructed of steel with a span of 200 feet (61 metres).  It was commissioned in 1916 and\, although it has been out of use since about 1964\, it is still standing.  Come along to discover more about this engineering marvel.

SUMMARY:Thomas Brassey - "The greatest railway builder in the world"
DESCRIPTION:An equally famous Thomas in the history of railway building\, Thomas Brassey was born at Buerton\, Aldford\, near Chester in 1805.  He was at the forefront of railway mania\, building railways across the world and employing some 85\,000 men at the height of his career. \nOur speaker\, Peter Bolt\, is Secretary of the Thomas Brassey Society and has been involved with the subject for over 50 years.
