Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. It is a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring to life local history and culture.



Free of charge and literally on people’s doorstep, Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever their background, age and ability. Read more…

HERITAGE OPEN DAY IN WEAVERHAM

Saturday, 10th September 2011

The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin (Grade 1 Listed Building). 10.00a.m. – 1.00p.m. (By kind permission of the vicars) – Members of Weaverham History Society will be available to give informal guided tours to visitors (individuals or small groups). Refreshments will also be available. Disabled access and toilet.

Please do not use the church car park after 1.00p.m. as it will be needed for wedding cars

Guided Tour of the Village – Tour will start at 2.30p.m. Meet at the Hanging Gate Inn which is situated on the outskirts of the village at the junction of West Road, Sandy Lane, Station Rd and the High Street. (B5153 & B5144) – A 10 minute walk from the church. Parking in the pub car park by kind permission of the landlord. Tour will follow the ‘Blue Plaque Route’, and will pass by all the listed buildings in the village as well as other buildings of historic interest. (Members of Weaverham History Society will act as guides to small groups). No booking necessary.

N.B. The Hanging Gate Inn will be open for lunch/drinks during the lunch break.
