The entries in the Registers were evidently made by the clerk until about 1800, and both Rathbone and Rigby indulged their fancies by commenting on the lives &nd characters of those who had died. Many very amusing and curious entries arc made ; also remarks on the weather and circumstances connected with the parentage of children brought to be baptised, as the following extracts will show :—

1699. A child of Jaines Garside not informed of.

1701. A child I have heard was born to James Garside which he would not notify to me.

1772. Thomas, son of Samuel Toilet of Crowton. Dec. 13. Bad, very bad.

1778. Thomas son of Thomas Richardson, Clockmaker, and Martha his wife of Weaverham. He was a son of Mr. Richardson, clockmaker near Great Budworth jocosely called the Earl of Mar because of the lowness of his stature. She is daughter of Thomas Hoole, Farmer of Weaverham.

1769. George Rathbone died June ye 9th and was buryed June 12th. In the 83rd year of his age and having been Clerk 30 years with credit. In the year of Christ 1769.
